Introduction

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering has made continuous progress in education, research, and contributions to society. To cope with the current trends in globalization and scientific convergence, innovative bachelor and graduate school programs have been created to nurture specialists and leaders for a sustainable future.

focuses on cultivating adaptability to the endlessly changing modern world.

Human beings have struggled to survive and improve their quality of life since the beginning of humankind. It is the interest and responsibility of those who major in this department to improve human lives using the resources provided by nature. The objective of an education from the department is to provide humankind with a safe, sustainable living environment; the coursework covers diverse engineering areas such as planning, design, construction, and administration.

Civil and environmental engineers should be ready to deal with 21st century concerns, such as a gradual increase in the frequency of natural disasters, the demands of highly developed industries, and an information-based society. To solve these problems, the department cooperates with other emerging engineering fields. In addition, it is continuously expanding its cooperation with prominent colleges worldwide to actively promote the department’s globalization project.

Because of recent severe natural disasters, people are now showing more interest in the role of architectural and environmental engineers in society. The SNU Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering endeavors to foster new students and improve the lives of future generations.

Career Opportunities

After graduating from the department, students enter jobs with a wide range of employers, such as private enterprises concerned with architecture and the environment, and public offices or research institutes.
