1. Visa Information
When inviting an international student for joint research, the D-2-5 Research Visa is commonly used.
Visa issuance is handled by the local Korean consulate. Therefore, it is recommended that the student(applicant) explain their situation to the consulate and confirm the appropriate visa type.
2. Document Submission Procedure
In principle, applications should be submitted within three months before the research start date.
If documents are prepared too early, the Immigration Office may request resubmission with an updated date and a new university president’s seal after your arrival in Korea and during the Alien Registration Card process.
Key Document: Research Student Confirmation Form, which requires the President’s seal of Seoul National University.
In order to obtain the President’s official seal on the Research Student Confirmation Form, all of the documents listed under No. 3 must be prepared.
All supporting documents must be prepared and submitted through the official document route:
Department → College of Engineering → Headquarters General Affairs Office.
Keep note that completion of all approvals and issuance of the president’s seal may take approximately two weeks.
5) Proof of Academic Qualification
A master’s degree or higher graduation certificate with an apostille or consular authentication; requested in accordance with the Ministry of Justice, Korea guidelines.
6) Invitation Letter from Inviting Faculty (SNU Professor) – free format / must include the professor’s signature/seal from SNU.
8) Tuberculosis (TB) Medical Certificate Requirement Notice (D-2-5 Visa Applicants)
In summary, applicants must personally submit their visa application to the consulate. To support this process, the university will provide the necessary documents, including the Research Student Confirmation Form bearing the official seal of the university president. All required documents should be prepared and submitted together to the consulate.
