Acquiring Credits

Information related to credit and classes of SNU College of Engineering

1 credit will be composed of over 15 hours of lectures from one semester. But, experiments, practices,
and physical educations will count as 1 credit after 30 years of taking

Credits completed per semester

Bachelor's degree: 18 credits per semester are required for the College of Engineering

  • Students with a GPA higher than 3.3 may register for up to 21 credits upon approval by the advisor and dean.
  • Courses from the summer/winter sessions and retaken courses do not count toward the GPA from previous semesters.

Graduate school

  • Students cannot register for more than 12 credits each semester.

The course registration is a procedure for registering the courses wished to be taken for the next semester.Please check the registration method/procedure below!

Course registration

Registration Period
  • Freshman: February
  • Current students: 1 month before beginning of semester (pre-registration). End of January for Spring semester, and end of July for Fall semester.
Registration Procedure
  • You can register for courses through the registration homepage (http://sugang.snu.ac.kr) by following the link for the appropriate curriculum.
Change of Registration
  • You may change your registration (cancellations, additions) through the website (log in with ID > Administration > Course information).
 

Registration confirmation

  • Freshman: February
  • Other students: 1 month before beginning of semester (pre-registration). End of January for first semester, and end of July for second semester.
 

Registration cancellation

  • After the registration period, you may cancel courses with the approval of your academic advisor before halfway into the semester. Cancelled courses appear with a grade of "W" on the transcript.
  • To cancel courses after the halfway point in the semester, you must present official documents offering an excuse (e.g., official doctor's report of medical illness).
Retaking Courses

The following information will guide your for retaking courses. Please check the method and eligibillity for retaking courses

 

Restrictions on retaking courses

  • Courses with a grade of less than C+ taken since the first semester of 2006 can be retaken.
  • No restrictions apply to retaking courses taken before the second semester of 2005.
 

Course retaking procedure

  • Indicate the year and semester the course was taken at the time of registration.
    For example, for a second-semester course in 2005, enter 20052.
 

Grades for retaken courses

  • The grades for retaken courses will be accepted, but they will be indicated on the grade report as retaken courses.
Summer/Winter
Sessions

Fllowing requlations, the summer/winter courses are distinguished form the reqular semester, and are carried out for those who are looking for additional chances for acquiring credit, apart form the regular semesters

Cancelling registration and refunds

  • You may cancel your registration before the halfway point of the semester. Refunds will be issued as follows:

Credits and grades

  • Credits acquired will be included in the completed credits, and summer/winter courses will not count toward the number of semesters in school.
  • Credits acquired in summer/winter courses will not be included in the GPA for the regular semesters but will be included in the year’s GPA.
  • After receiving a certain grade in a substitute course that replaces a thesis submission exam, the student is exempted from the corresponding subject exam.
