Seoul National University College of Engineering (Dean Kookheon Char) announced on 7th that Professor Suhwan Kim of Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering won the Doyeon-Changjo Award. The award ceremony was held at the 29th anniversary ceremony for Inter-university Semiconductor Research Center on October 27th.
The fund for Doyeon-Chanjo award was provided by Honorary Professor Jong-Duk Lee of Seoul National University, who is the first-generation of the semiconductor industry. The award is for individuals who have contributed to the semiconductor industry through creative researches or who have made significant research achievement for a future industry development.
Professor Suhwan Kim won this award for his contribution to the development of the semiconductor industry as a creative research achievement.
Professor Kim has recently developed a multi-channel 24-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) with a high-resolution, low-power signal amplifier. Many domestic system semiconductor companies and fabless companies had tried to develop this, but failed.
The ADC developed by Professor Kim has achieved the world's best competitiveness in terms of power consumption and supply voltage, as well as signal amplification function up to 128 times.
Furthermore, he has also developed core design techniques to acquire sensor data from IoT devices such as analog and mixed signal circuits for high performance digital MEMS microphones and dust sensor systems that support PM2.5 and PM10 simultaneously.
Professor Kim Suhwan graduated from Korea University with a bachelor's degree and a master's degree and worked as a researcher at LG Electronics and earned a doctoral degree from the University of Michigan, USA. Since then, he has been working as a research staff member at the IBM Watson Institute in the US and has been a professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Seoul National University since 2004.
