Seoul National University College of Engineering (Dean Kookheon Char) announced on 13th that Dr. Cheol Lee of Technology Management, Economics and Policy Program (Supervisor Jina Kang) won the Excellent Doctoral Papers Award, which is awarded by Korean Society of Strategic Management.
Korean Society of Strategic Management is the most prestigious society in the field of technology strategy. Dr. Lee has received a excellent doctoral papers award by publishing his thesis paper titled ‘Explorative innovation through convergence between science and technology : focusing on the characteristics of knowledge and organization’.
Dr. Lee pointed out that in order to effectively cope with the rapidly changing technology environment and to improve the innovation performance in the new technology field, company must be able to combine the original technology with the basic science technology. He also emphasized that companies should actively collaborate with basic science research institutes such as universities and government-funded research center.
The thesis paper has provided strategic advice to companies seeking to prepare for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and it was published in the world-class journal ‘Journal of Technology Transfer’ and ‘Scientometrics’.
Professor Jina Kang, who is a supervisor of Dr. Lee, said, "Dr Lee's paper was designed to present a R & D strategy for companies to re-inform the importance of basic science while the industrial and technological paradigms are changing rapidly. It is important to cooperate with research institutes specializing in basic science for efficient understanding of cutting-edge technology and creation of innovative technology. "
