SNU College of Engineering (Dean Kook Heon Char) announces that several graduate students from the Department of Industrial Engineering have been nominated as award recipients at the 14th Master’s Thesis Competition. The competition, hosted by the Korean Institute of Industrial Engineers (KIIE), has been hosted at Hanyang University Seoul Campus.
From SNU Department of Industrial Engineering: Younsoo Lee who has received his master’s degree this February has won the “Grand Award(대상)”; Jongheon Lee and Yong Hoon Ji who are currently studying for their master’s degrees have both won the “Excellence Award(최우수상)”; and master graduate Kihyun Lee has won the “Honor Award(우수상).”
The recipient of the Grand Prize is doctoral student Younsoo Lee who has completed his paper under the guidance of Professor Kyungsik Lee from the Department of Industrial Engineering. The title of the work is “An Extended Formulation Approach for the Lot-sizing and Scheduling Problem with Sequence-dependent Setup and Production Run Limit.” This paper has investigated an effective production planning method to be used for sequence dependent manufacturing preparation and continuous manufacturing.
Y. Lee states, “I would not have earnt this prize without the guidance of my advising professor and the support of other members of the research group. I aim to continue my research on various production planning methods to be used for more general manufacturing systems.”
Jongheon Lee who has won the Excellence Award has also finished his research on the “Optimization of Micro-grid Operation Plan at Uncertain Stand-Alone Operation” under the guidance of Professor Lee. He has suggested a method to record the production planning at stand-alone operation under micro-grid environment.”
J. Lee expresses, “I have been able to amend my lacking work with the help of my advising professor and fellow lab members. I plan to further research the optimization of serial decision making under uncertain environments.”
Yong Hoon Ji, the other recipient of the Excellence Award, has conducted his research under the title of “Optimized Layout of the Components of Combat Vehicle to Minimize Its Vulnerability.” Ji has tackled the optimized layout of components considering the complexity of system and threat measures; an important topic for enhancing weapon survivability that lacks preceding researches.
Ji states, “I thank the ROK army for providing me an opportunity to study at SNU Department of Industrial Engineering. This research has been made possible with Professor Hong’s devoted guidance and research team’s support. After graduation, I want to contribute to the scientification and modernization of national defense via designing effective and systematic army system.”
Master graduate Kihyun Lee who has won the Honor Award has written on the “Showrooming Offline Channel Tactic” under the guidance of Professor Ilkyeong Moon. Recently, due to the high convenience and stability of electronic commerce, there has been a change in the consumption patterns of consumers. As a response to this change, Lee puts forth a pricing decision strategy considering companies’ showrooming.
K. Lee states, “Professor’s enthusiasm and the team’s support have ultimately led me to this award. I aspire to enter the industrial field to actually try out these research findings on various situations that companies may come across.”
