SNU Researchers EJ Jung, SeungRyul Shin, and Giwon Kim of the Technology Management, Economics and Policy Program (TEMEP) Receive the Outstanding Blockchain Strategy Research Award at 2018 Autumn Conference of the Korean Strategic Management Society

SNU College of Engineering announced on 28th that doctoral candidates EJ Jung and SeungRuul Shin and master candidate Giwon Kim (academic advisor Professor Jina Kang) from the Technology Management, Economics and Policy Program (TEMEP) have won the ‘Outstanding Blockchain Strategy Research Award’ at the 2018 Autumn Conference of the Korean Strategic Management Society
This competition, hosted by the Korean Strategic Management Society and sponsored by a blockchain consulting firm called BlockCrafters Capital, was held to boost business strategy researches with a focus on ecosystems and are based on blockchain technology for decentralized economy.
EJ Jung was nominated the recipient of the ‘Outstanding Blockchain Strategy Research Award’ for his research titled “Does ICO of Blockchain Businesses Serve as Alternatives to Crowdfunding?”. ICO, which is an abbreviation for Initial Coin Offering, is a type of funding using cryptocurrencies.
Jung expressed, “This research aimed to investigate whether the ICO is serving as an alternative for crowdfunding in blockchain companies. I hope the research can contribute the ICO instutionalization debate that is happening around the world.”
EJ Jung received his bachelor’s degree at the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering of KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) and is currently on his doctor’s course at SNU TEMEP. His research, based on his experience of establishing an E-Learning startup that integrates AI (artificial intelligence) technologies, centers on start-up funding and venture management strategy.
SeungRyul Shin and Giwon Kim won the award for their research on “Core Technology Competencies of Blockchain Industry and Competitive Advantage of Companies: Resource-Based Perspective.”
Kim stated, “The research identified the distinct characteristics of blockchain companies and sought for corresponding management strategies. We hope to help blockchain technologies with high-applicability to nest in the Korean industry.”
Giwon Kim finished his undergraduate at the Department of Nanomaterials Science and Engineering at the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) to proceed to SNU TEMEP for his master’s degree. SeungRyul Shin received his bachelor’s degree on Mechanical Engineering at the University of California, Los-Angeles (UCLA) and is working for his doctor’s degree at SNU TEMEP.
