SNU Professor Byeng Dong Youn’s Team Finds Answers to the “4th Industrial Revolution” Homework from Globalization
With the advancement of Internet technology, countless data has been created by Internet users and many companies, including Facebook, Google and Amazon, are recording tremendous growth based on this data. This internet industry has grown by over approximately 12,000 times since the early 2000s. Recently, the industrial digitalization following the technological development of Internet-of-Things technology has caused vast amounts of industrial data to be produced and a déjà vu of the past internet based industrial revolution is coming back. So what can we do with all this industrial data?
With the data pouring out from the manufacturing lines, we can improve productivity, quality and availability, through the data attained from power houses, we can enhance power house operation efficiency and operation rate, and from self-driving cars we can increase driving safety and convenience.
A revolutionary technology of the 4th industrial revolution that uses such sensory technology is the “Machine Intelligence Solution”. A company that is receiving the attention of the global market for such “Machine Intelligence Solution” technology is OnePredict. OnePredict (CEO: Byeng Dong Youn) is a venture company that was founded in 2016 and is based on the Industrial AI technology developed by Korean researchers like professors and post graduate students of SNU Department of Machine and Aerospace Engineering. Their business is not only limited to Korean companies but is being globally spread to companies like ABB, Shaeffler and Honeywell. The following are the reasons why OnePredict is receiving worldwide attention: Firstly, with the outstanding achievement of being a 9th time awardee of the Global Industrial Data Analysis Competition, they are supporting the base technology required for “Machine Intelligence Solution”. In particular, they have proven their world’s best technology by coming 1st and 2nd in place out of a total of 130 teams for the Industrial Data Analysis Competition hosted by the American PHM Society. Secondly, they have verified their “Machine Intelligence Solution” through abundant references with International global companies like SK, LG Hyundai Motors and POSCO. Thirdly, they are showcasing exceptional achievements in terms of technology licensing contracts with global industries like ABB, and Schaeffler.
As a result, they have successfully drawn contracts for supplying its solution to not only the Korean Ansan Material’s Smart Demo Factory but also to the German (DFKI) and Swiss (SSF) Smart factories. This is the world’s first for a Korean small and medium-sized enterprise in Korea to have accomplished and it is not n understatement to say that this technological achievement of Korea is taking the lead of the 4th industrial revolution global market. Recently, the government’s efforts for the commercialization of smart industries seems to slowly show to be fruitful and of these, “Machine Intelligence” is highly anticipated to be the biggest fruit for our future industrialization. “The ecosystem of our production industry and related technology is already of global level. In the era of 4th Industrial Revolution of global competition, we desperately need the global mindset of companies and the government’s support to nurture small and medium-sized companies in order to succeed,”
