SNU College of Engineering (Dean Kookheon Char) announced on October 30 that ICCV 2019, a leading international academic competition in the field of artificial intelligence and computer vision, organized by Professor Kyoung Mu Lee of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (President of the Korean Computer Vision Society), will be held at COEX in Seoul from October 27 to November 2.
The International Conference on Computer Vision, or ICCV, is the world's most prestigious academic competition that has driven the development of global computer vision and artificial intelligence technologies for the past 32 years. The competition began in 1987 and was co-hosted by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the International Computer Vision Foundation (CVF). Amidst the event being hosted in a continent-wise rotation system every two years since then, this is the first time that the event is being held in South Korea, making this all the more special.
ICCV 2019 has more than 7,500 participants, the largest scale recorded in history, with a total of 1,077 new papers to be published. Also to be displayed are products and technologies from 74 artificial intelligence-related companies worldwide, including Google and Facebook.
In particular, a number of papers and technologies in high-tech fields directly related to the 4th industrial revolution will be announced, including surrounding environment recognition technology for autonomous vehicles, management and application of video contents using artificial intelligence technology, security management technology through recognition of face, posture and behavior, and artificial intelligence robot technology for recognition and interaction of surrounding environments.
"We expect to introduce cutting-edge technologies of world-class artificial intelligence scholars and experts through ICCV 2019," said Professor Kyoung Mu Lee who organized the event. "We will also contribute in improving the national competitiveness of Korea by showcasing the capability and interest of artificial intelligence technologies in Korea to companies and experts around the world," he added.
