Professor Byeng Dong Youn's One Predict, Selected As This Year's Top 10 Mechanical Technology

The Korea Association of Machinery Industry . The Korea Federation of Mechanical Engineering Societies . Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials . Korea Institute of Industrial Technology . Korea Aerospace Research Institute and the Korea Railroad Research Institute selected "10 Machine Technologies of the Year" and "Machine researcher of the Year" to mark Machine Day on November 6. A total of 10 mechanical technologies, including OnePredict's "Artificial Intelligence-Based Condition Prediction Diagnosis System," led by SNU Professor Byeng Dong Youn, were selected for the award and the awarding ceremony took place on "2019 Machine Day" to mark Machine Day on November 6.
Machine Day, held for the 18th time this year, is an event to promote the development of the machinery industry and promote the self-esteem of the machinery industry.
This year's "Top 10 Mechanical Technologies" was first established in 2013 to select and promote excellent technologies or products in the field of machinery developed in Korea over the past year and to honor the labors' hard work.
In 2019, the 10 major mechanical technologies selected for the year were ▲AI-based prediction diagnostic system (OnePredict) ▲Technology that enhances the lifespan of tools by 5 times using liquid nitrogen at -196 ° C (Korea Institute of Industrial Technology) ▲ Gasturbine turbine blade localization technology (Jinyoung TBX)▲ Design and fabrication technology of composite grating structure made of high strength carbon fiber (Hankuk Fiber) ▲ Optimal life cycle securing air conditioning system using big data based AI technology (LG Electronics) ▲ Flexible endoscope surgery robot, K-FLEX (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology EasyEndo Surgical) ▲ Low friction, anhydrous carbon coating technology for improved wear resistance (Korea Institute of Materials Science) ▲ Localization of main control valve for medium excavators, DCV300 (Doosan Infracore) ▲ Active steering bogie technology for urban railway vehicles to reduce wear, dust and noise of railway vehicles (Korea Railroad Research Institute) and ▲ World's first ocean navigation 114K tanker with LNG propulsion technology (Korea Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering Co. Hyundai Heavy Industries. Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries)
"We applied AI technology that combines knowledge of mechanical engineering domain and AI to solve problems that could not be solved through just using AI (Artificial Intelligence) technology," said Professor Youn. Professor Youn's research team has won 9 industry data analysis competitions in the past five years that was held by the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).
"In the era of the 4th industrial revolution, industrial data is drastically increasing and the economic effects of industrial facility availability, manufacturing quality, industrial safety and productivity improvement that have been made possible through analysis and prediction of industrial data, amount to more than 50 trillion won every year," said Professor Youn.
