The Seoul National University College of Engineering (Dean, Lee Kun-woo) announced on 25th that he held a commemorative event for the opening of the Haedong Library in the lobby of the 301th Seoul National University on Thursday.
Five Hae Dong library and seminar rooms were built with the support of Kim Jung Sik, chairman of HaeDong Science & Culture Foundation.
President Kim Jung Sik, Vice Chancellor Park Chan Wook of Seoul National University, Dean Lee Kun Woo and undergraduates from Seoul National University have attended the opening ceremony.
In his congratulatory speech, President Kim said, "Compared to the days where there were no classrooms, textbooks, and laboratories to study after the Korean War, I hope students today can focus more on studies with the much better environment that we have today.” Moreover, "We have provided various supports for our juniors in the meantime, but I think that the most significant contribution is to create a library that we can study as much as we like."
Lee said, "We hope that the HaeDong Library and Seminar Room will bring out the potential of students and make the students a place where they can freely spread knowledge and imagination."
On the other hand, Chairman Kim Jung Sik of Haedong Science & Culture Foundation entered Electrical and Computer Engineering Dept. of Seoul National University in 1948 and experienced the Korean War during his school days. After graduating in 1956, he established Daeduck Electronics and laid the groundwork for the development of Korea's electronics industry.
