7 Professors from Seoul National University College of Engineering retired

Professor Hyunmu Koh (Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering), Professor Kyung-Duck Suh (Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering), Professor JooMyung Kang (Department of Energy Resources Engineering), Professor Goon-Cherl Park (Department of Nuclear Engineering), Professor YoungJe Yoo (School of Chemical and Biological Engineering) and Professor Yoon-Sik Lee (School of Chemical and Biological Engineering) of Seoul National University College of Engineering retired on August 31.st .
Professor Hyunmu Koh graduated from Seoul National University Department of Civil Engineering on 1978 and he got Ph.D. degree from University of Illinois in United States. Since his appointment as a professor at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in 1987, he has trained 27 Ph.D. students and 89 masters students in the past 30 years. Furthermore, he contributed a lot to the development of the College of Engineering as he published total 448 papers and registered 16 domestic patents. He also served as a chairman of the Korean Society of Civil Engineers, director of Department of Global Environment System Engineering, and director of the Korea Bridge Design and Engineering Research Center. He has devoted himself to research on structural engineering and contributed greatly to the academia.
 
Professor Kyung-Duck Suh graduated from Seoul National University Department of Civil Engineering on 1980 and he got Ph.D. degree from University of Delaware in the United States. Since his appointment as a professor at the Department of Global Environment System Engineering, he has trained 10 Ph.D. students and 36 masters students in the past 20 years. Furthermore, he contributed a lot to the development of the College of Engineering as he published total 329 papers and registered 4 domestic patents. He also served as a president of the organizing committee for ICCE 2014, dean of Department of the Civil and Environmental Engineering and a president of the BrainKorea21. He has devoted himself to the research on hydraulic engineering and contributed greatly to the academia.

Professor JooMyung Kang graduated from Seoul National University Department of Resources Engineering on 1974 and he got Ph.D. degree from University Oklahoma in the United States on 1981. Since his appointment as a professor at the Department of Resources Engineering, he has trained 39 Ph.D. students and 48 masters students in the past 30 years. Furthermore, he contributed a lot to the development of the petroleum engineering as he published total 222 papers and registered 7 domestic patents. In addition, he led the establishment of policies regarding national energies as he served as an international member of World Petroleum Congress and a chairman of the National Energy Commission. He was awarded the Order of Science and Technology Merit, Hyeoksin Medal thanks to his contribution to the establishment of the Government-led Science and Technology Research Program System.

 
Professor Goon-Cherl Park graduated from Seoul National University Department of Nuclear Engineering on 1975 and he got Ph.D. degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on 1983. Since his appointment as a professor at the Department of Nuclear Engineering, he has trained 36 Ph.D. students and 51 masters students in the past 35 years. Furthermore, he has played main role in the academia as he built experiment equipment SNUF, which was utilized for the development of the next-generation nuclear power plant, in Seoul National University for the first time in Korea. In addition, he served as a chairman of Korean Nuclear Society, dean of the Kepco International Nuclear Graduate School and associate dean of the College of Engineering. Also, he published total 170 papers and devoted himself to the study on safety system of nuclear power plant.
 
Professor YoungJe Yoo graduated from Seoul National University Department of Chemical Engineering on 1974 and he got Ph.D. degree from University of Maryland in United States on 1986. Since his appointment as a professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering on 1986, he has trained 37 Ph.D. students and 86 masters students in the past 31 years. Furthermore, he has published approximately 300 papers on the biological engineering and endeavored to spread appropriate technologies through the establishment of the ‘Scientists and Engineers Without Borders’. He also contributed to the development of the university as he served as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Education. When he served as the president of the National Human Resources Development Institute, he contributed to the training of specialist in preparation for knowledge-based industries by reinforcing the education of government officials.
 
Professor Yoon-Sik Lee graduated from Seoul National University Department of Applied Chemistry on 1974 and he got Ph.D. degree from Rutgers University in the United States on 1981. Since his appointment as a professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering on 1982, he has trained 31 Ph.D. students and 81 masters students in the past 35 years. Furthermore, he has contributed a lot to the fine chemistry industries as he published approximately 250 papers and registered about 90 patents. He also contributed to the development of the university and the academia, as he served as the head of industrialization, director of research support, and chairman of the Korean industrialization society.
 
Professor KwangWoo Kim graduated from Seoul National Department of Architecture and Architectural Engineering on 1975 and he got Ph.D. degree from the University of Michigan in the United States on 1984. Since his appointment as a professor at the Department of Architecture and Architectural Engineering on 1990, he has trained 26 Ph.D. students and 82 masters students in the past 28 years. Furthermore, he contributed a lot to the College of Engineering as he published 500 papers and registered 21 patents. In addition, he constantly volunteered for the development of the construction planning and environmental friendly architecture. He also served as a chairman of several domestic conferences such as Architectural Institute of Korea and president of the organizing committee for several international conferences including IAQVEC 2016.
