Professor Jang Jyongsik and Professor Moon Ilkyeong Receive SNU Excellence in Research Award

SNU College of Engineering (Dean Cha Kook-Heon) announces that Professor Jang Jyongsik of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering and Professor Moon Ilkyeong of the Department of Industrial Engineering have been nominated as the recipients of the SNU Excellence in Research Award. The two professors have been acknowledged for their creative researches and outstanding outcomes. The award ceremony was held at the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) from 3:30 PM on May 16^th.
 
The SNU Excellence in Research Award established in 2008 is presented to professors to boost their research motivation to thus raise the competitiveness of SNU’s research. Out of the 23 nominations, only a finalized 10 is selected after strict evaluation. SNU College of Engineering has two recipients, Professor Jang and Professor Moon.
 
Professor Jang has devoted in the research of polymer nanocomposites and flexible smart sensors. He has especially helped to introduce electronic nose and electronic tongue to Korea. Jang has published a total of 482 research papers to receive the Presidential Medal and the SNU Distinguished College of Engineering Professor Award and be selected as one of 50 Outstanding Performances in Basic Research by the Ministry of Science and ICT. Jang has also served as the chief editor of a prestigious industrial chemistry journal named “Journal of Industrial Engineering & Chemistry.”
 
Professor Moon who majors in production management has conducted numerous researches on supply chain management, shipping and logistics, disaster management, etc. His impressive research findings serve as models to industrial engineers in Korea and abroad. Moon’s academic achievements have ultimately led him to become the first Asian to serve as the vice editorial commissioner of the European Journal of Industrial Engineering since 2010. In 2013, he has also received the 27^th Jungheon Academic Grand Prize of the Korean Institute of Industrial Engineers, which is given to a member with greatest achievements in that year.
