SNU Professor Moon Ilkyeong Elected as the Next President of the Korean Institute of Industrial Engineers

On 5^th, SNU College of Engineering (Dean Cha Kook-Heon) revealed that Professor Moon Ilkyeong of the Department of Industrial Engineering has been nominated as the 23^rd president of the Korean Institute of Industrial Engineers (KIIE), which holds over 10500 members. His term of office spans for two years starting from 2019 to 2020.
 
Professor Moon has filled the post of chief editor, head of journal department, and president of a working group that handles inspection, distribution, and supply chain management. In 2013, Moon has received the 27^th Junghun Grand Prize of Academic Achievements from KIIE for the most accomplishments among all members. In 2018, Moon has become the first in his department to be awarded the SNU Excellence in Research Award.
 
Moon expresses his ambition as the next president stating, “This field of industrial engineering that harmonically manages variety of new technology pertaining to the 4^th Industrial Revolution, including business analytics, big data, block chain, smart factory technology, and financial engineering, is relatively unknown to companies and the public. During my two-year term, I aim to raise the stature of industrial engineering to companies and the public by focusing on public relations.”
 
He adds, “I believe industrial engineering, which is the “CEO training academy” that has produced Apple’s Tim Cook (CEO), Hyundai Motor’s Chung Mong-koo (chairman and CEO), LG Uplus’ Kwon Young Soo (vice chairman), KT’s Koo Hyunmo (president), SK C&C’s Jang Dong-Hyun (CEO and president), and Kakao’s Kim Beom-soo (chairman) deserve more roles in society. We ask the specialists in policy, society, and economy for a keen interest and attention in industrial engineering that emphasizes the timely importance of field convergence between policy, economy, humanities, and social science.”
