SNU College of Engineering (Dean Cha Kook-Heon) and College of Medicine (Dean Shin Chan Soo) have co-hosted the convergence research conference at 4PM of May 28th (Monday) at the SNU College of Medicine Large Conference Hall.

This conference amplified the synergy of interdisciplinary research through active interactions between the two colleges to arrive at original and unique results that independent researches could not have achieved.

SNU College of Engineering and College of Medicine have made notable accomplishments during the past few years of convergence research. During this conference, the seven teams that formed last year presented their assignment results, which were discussed heatedly and thoroughly.

The seven tasks of 2017 were: △“Development of Pro-angiogenic Bone Implant through 3D Printing for Optimized Osteoanagenesis” (Department of Materials Science and Engineering Professor Sun Jeong-Yun, Orthopedic Surgery Professor Lee Jae Hyup), △“Development and Clinical Adaptation of AI-powered Diagnostic Technology for Brain Tumor Imaging” (Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Professor Lee Jungwoo, Radiology Professor Choi Seung Hong), △“Development and Clinical Evaluation of Rehabilitation Training Method that Involves Biomimetic Ankle Rehabilitation Robot” (Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Professor Park Yong-Lae, Rehabilitation Professor Paik Nam-Jong), △“Development of Support Systems for Machine Learning-based Imaging of Liver Diseases” (Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Professor Yoon Sungroh, Radiology Professor Kim Junghoon), △“Development of New Stent for the Treatment of Cerebral Aneurysms” (Department of Materials Science and Engineering Professor Kim Hyoun-Ee, Neurosurgery Professor Kang Hyun-Seung), △“Development and Clinical Validation of Computer Algorithm for Diagnosis of Acute Appendicitis that Needs Operation” (Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Professor Lee Kyoung Mu, Radiology Professor Lee Kyoungho), △“Simulation Research of the Effect of Transporting Automated External Defibrillator Using Unmanned Aerial Vehicle on Defibrillation Time for Sudden Cardiac Arrest Patients” (Department of Computer Science and Engineering Professor Lee Chang-Gun, Emergency Medicine Professor Shin Sang Do).

6 additional tasks have been added to the list this year. These include: △“Development of Chiral Plasmonic Sensor for Monitoring Protein Structural Changes” (Department of Materials Science and Engineering Professor Nam Ki Tae, Nuclear Medicine Professor Lee Ho-Young), △“Development of Non-invasive and Continuous Blood Pressure Monitoring Technique Using 3-Axis Pressure Sensor” (Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Professor Seo Jong Mo, Internal Medicine Professor Lee Hae Young), △“Interdisciplinary Analysis of Histology and MRI for Detailed Brain Region Mapping” (Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Professor Lee Jong-Ho, Anatomy Professor Choi Hyung Jin), △“Development of MMP Target Protein-based Wound Sensor” (Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Professor Chun Kukjin, Reconstructive Plastic Surgery Professor Heo Chanyeong), △“Development and Verification of Deep Learning Algorithm for Gynecological Malignancy Detection in Computed Tomography Scans” (Department of Computer Science and Engineering Professor Shin Yeong Gil, Obstetrics and Gynecology Professor Chung Hyun Hoon), △“Creation of TCI-based Artificial Personality Using Mnemosyne AI” (Department of Computer Science and Engineering Professor Eom Hyeonsang, Psychiatry Professor Lee Jun Young).

SNU College of Engineering Dean Cha Kook-Heon stated, “The importance of engineering and medicine in modern society increases day by day. We anticipate that this convergence research can derive interesting results that cannot be found by dedicating only to a single area of study.”
