SNU College of Engineering (Dean Cha Kook-Heon) announces on 12th that Kim Sun Young, a Ph.D. student of SNU Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering’s Navigation & Electronic System Lab (NESL, Professor Park Chan Gook) has been selected as a recipient of the Student Paper Awards of the 31st International Technical Meeting of the Satellite Division of the Institute of Navigation (ION GNSS+ 2018) hosted at Hyatt Regency Miami from September 24th to 28th.
Kim has received this award for her research paper titled “Multiple Frequency Tracking Method Based on the Cardinalised Probability Hypothesis Density Filter with Cardinality Compensation.”
The article suggests a tracking method to measure the frequency of multiple, artificial disturbances through compensating the cardinality using the CPHD (Cardinalised Probability Hypothesis Density) filter, which enhances its tracking performance. Kim’s work has attracted attention of the participants by setting her research on a situation that assumes threats from artificial disturbances.
Meanwhile, Kim is also working on an assignment of the National GNSS Research Center since 2010 under the guidance of Professor Park. She is conducting intensive researches for appropriate response and detection of artificial disturbances (like jamming and spoofing).
The ION GNSS+ gathers over 1000 experts on navigation from all over the world every September to discuss and share research, policies and current issues on satellite navigation. The original name of the meeting, ION GNSS, which has been kept till 2012, has been replaced with ION GNSS+ as the conference stretches its research boundaries to application of satellite navigation and various other navigation-related fields.
The Student Paper Award is distributed to distinguished students as an opportunity for them to participate and present at the ION GNSS+. At the meeting, students learn about the newest technologies of GNSS while meeting the leaders of the field. The judging for the award involves a strict evaluation process as the recipient is rewarded a full registration (worth $1260) and is provided a traveling expense of $2500.
