SNU College of Engineering (Dean Cha Kook-Heon) announced its hosting of the 2018 Sinyang Outstanding Young Professor Award Ceremony at the SNU Engineering House at noon of 17th.

The 2018 Sinyang Outstanding Young Professor Award selected three recipients for its education award and three recipients for its scholarship award. The education awards were delivered to Associate Professor Zo Hangman (Department of Architecture and Architectural Engineering), Professor Lee Kyungsik (Department of Industrial Engineering), and Professor Jeong Yoonchan (Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering). The scholarship awards were presented to Professor Song Junho (Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering), Professor Ko Seung Hwan (Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering), and Professor Kang Kisuk (Department of Materials Science and Engineering).

The award is named after the pen name of the late board chairman of Sinyang Cultural Foundation, Jeong Seoggyu. (He is also the founder of Taesung Rubber & Chemical.) As an alumni of SNU College of Engineering, Jeong donated a large sum of university development fund to present newly-promoted full or associate professors under the age of 49 this award for their notable achievements in teaching or research. This year being its 14th annual, the award has nominated 81 professors since its establishment in 2005.

The late board chairman Jeong graduated from SNU Department of Chemical Engineering in 1952 to run the Taesung Rubber & Chemical for over 50 years. With the money from selling his company, Jeong established the Sinyang Cultural Foundation to construct the first, second, and third Sinyang Information Libraries with fancy internet cafes and study rooms. The Sinyang Cultural Foundation relocated itself to the on-campus Sinyang Information Library in 2005 to officially launch its scholarship project. Jeong passed away in 2015 at the age of 85 and the foundation is currently managed by the school.
