SNU College of Engineering announced on 31st that Team “X-Crops” of the SNU X-Corps received the Grand Prize (also called the Minister of Science and ICT Award) at the 2nd National X-Corps Festival.
The National X-Corps Festival hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT as a part of its X-mind Corps Program is a competition to raise X-Corps teams composed of science and engineering students. This year being its second annual, the festival invited 40 teams among a total of 425 teams from 14 colleges that have passed the first round hosted at their schools. All 40 teams had their research findings evaluated by industry experts.
At the festival, the SNU “X-Crops” received the Grand Award for developing a highly-efficient, low-cost automatic crop cultivation system that overcomes the reduction of agricultural human resources and limited agricultural productivity due to small farmland. With the system’s micro-and-macro sensors that track the real time biometric information of crops, crops can be raised automatically. This research anticipates 129% growth in productivity and 70% reduction in cost compared to conventional systemss. The team applied for 4 patents related to the research.
Meanwhile, the SNU X-Corps founded in 2017 selects and supports 20 X-Corps teams composed of full-time professors, industry experts, and undergraduate students. This year, approximately 20 teams have been made and they will be actively participating in researches to creatively solve on-field issues related to various fields in engineering.
