Jae Hwan Yeom and Seung Hoon Kang from SNU Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Received Grand Award for Structural Dynamics at the 8^th EDISON SW Competition

SNU College of Engineering announced on 11^th that Jae Hwan Yeom and Seung Hoon Kang from the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering have won the Grand Award for Structural Dynamics (also called the Minster of Science and ICT Award) at the 8^th EDISON Software (SW) Competition.
 
This 8^th competition, cohosted by the EDISON Central Center of Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) and 6 EDISON centers composed of university consortium, was held at the KT Human Resources Development Center in Daejeon from January 24^th to 25^th.
 
The event is hosted annually with the aims to ▲ boost creativity and problem-solving ability of science and engineering students, ▲ provide various SW validation and commercialization platforms based on EDISON, and ▲ raise human resources for computational science and engineering research and SW development.
 
This year approximately 300 science and engineering undergraduate and graduate students composing 113 teams that specialize in one of 6 professional fields participated in the event. They used the EDISON system (https://www.edison.re.kr) to solve problems and write up their research papers.
 
As a result, Jae Hwan Yeom (Bachelor Course) and Seung Hoon Kang (M.S. Course) of SNU Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (Professor Sang Joon Shin) won the Grand Award for Structural Dynamics for presenting on “Structural Analysis and Damage Analysis of Motorcycle Rear Frame Under High-Speed Driving.”
 
Meanwhile, Heekgyoung Song of the Liberty Korea Party and Presidential Committee on the 4^th Industrial Revolution presented at the event and R&D Policy Director Byoung Sun Jeong of Ministry of Science and ICT and National Policy Research Director Byoung Taek Park of the Nation Research Foundation (NRF) of Korea both made congratulatory speeches to encourage the SW talents at the event.
 
The EDISON is a business launched in 2011 that manages and supports college lectures, research studies, competitions, and SW versions through a computational science and engineering platform developed by central center with on-board analysis software developed by university labs that handle fields including computational thermos-fluid dynamics, nanophysics, computational chemistry, structural dynamics, computational design, computational medical science, urban environment, etc.
