SNU College of Engineering (Dean Kook-heon Char) celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Advanced Industrial Strategy Program (AIP) at the Main Hall of Engineering House on February 13th.
Many graced the ceremony with their presence including President Se-Jung Oh of SNU, Dean Kook-heon Char of College of Engineering, AIP Alumni Association (Head of association Myung Soon Park, Joong Ho Seonwoo, etc.), Jong-gul Lee of Democratic Party of Korea, Yong Hyeon Shin of Bareummirae Party, etc.
AIP is the highest open program on science and technology that boasts the longest history among all programs in Korea. Established in March of 1989, it has produced over 3000 alumni since its opening 30 years ago.
AIP prepared a space at the Engineering House to celebrate its 30-year history and express gratitude towards development fund donators. The AIP alumni supported the growth of their Alma Mater through donating various equipment, scholarship and research fund, construction fund to build various buildings in school including the Engineering House, etc.
The AIP alumni association published a newsletter and book to commemorate the 30th anniversary and strengthen the alumni connection. The alumni association also boasts a long and honorable history; the longest among all alumni associations of science and technology open programs in Korea. It will continue to provide support through active donation activities and industry-university collaborations with the professors.
Professor Yeon June Kang who is in charge of AIP expressed, “The celebration of the 30th anniversary has remined us to further improve the program. We are currently planning and designing to provide the best curriculum and strengthen the network between students.”
SNU stated, “We expect that the commemoration space for AIP’s history and donations provided with the support from Seok Hwan Kim, the 14th head of alumni association, will serve to broadcast great achievements made by our alumni. The recently-published 30-Year History of AIP will be a record of all the activities of alumni from the first admission to the latest 60th.”
