Hosting of the APMS 2018 to Seek Development in Smart Technology
- Over 200 Participants from the Academic and Industrial Circles of 29 Countries

SNU College of Engineering (Dean Cha Kook-Heon) hosted the “APMS (Advances in Production Management Systems) 2018 International Conference” from August 26^th to 30^th at the Global Convention Plaza of Seoul National University Gwanak Campus. The conference wass brought together by the SNU Institute for Industrial Systems Innovation and the Korean Institute of Industrial Engineers (KIIE, President Lee Tae-Eog).
 
This conference covered the topic of “Smart Production Management for Data-driven, Intelligent, Collaborative, and Sustainable Manufacturing” to conduct heated discussion on how to merge smart technology including Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, Smart City, and Virtual Reality (VR) into the manufacturing industry. A particular focus was given to future technologies that shall lead the industrial engineering field, which is currently facing a new paradigm due to low growth and fast aging society. This topic was dealt from three different dimensions – academically, industrially, and technologically.
 
This conference was hosted with the support of the Korea Land and Housing Corporation, the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies (KOFST), the Korea Tourism Organization, and Seoul National University. Its participants covered over 200 people from academic and industrial circles of 29 countries including Germany, Norway, Denmark, Japan, etc. The five-day program included 18 special sessions, 21 regular sessions, and 2 keynote speeches. The two speeches were delivered by CEO Dr. Park Sang Woo of the Korea Land and Housing Corporation and Professor Cho Sungzoon of SNU Department of Industrial Engineering; each under the title of “Smart City by LH” and “Big Data Innovations in Korea Manufacturing.”
 
Professor Moon Ilkyeong (Department of Industrial Engineering) who has served as the Conference Chair of APMS 2018 stated prior to the event, “We anticipate that the APMS 2018 International Conference will be the international stage that will spur some fruitful discussions for the academic growth and development of strategies for smart systems. It shall serve as the starting point of various researches. Also, with the support of global corporations, through industrial convergence, we look forward for the spark of new business models in medicine, media, and manufacturing, which may potentially produce a synergic economic effect.”
