Professor Chung-Kil Hur of SNU College of Engineering Publishes Top Conference Thesis for 10 Consecutive Years
- Ranked 4th in the world in the field of computer language.
- Identical achievement rankings as Alexander Aiken of Stanford University and Derek Dreyer of Max Planck.

SNU College of Engineering announced on December 9 that a research paper by Professor Chung-Kil Hur of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering has been published as a top conference paper for the 10th consecutive year in the computer language field. This marks the ranking of being 4th place in the world in the field of computer language.
Professor Chung-Kil Hur has drawn global attention as he has consistently published influential research results globally over the past decade. The findings have been adopted as the official technology for LLVM compiler, a widely used C/C++compiler worldwide.
The split compilation verification technology that was newly developed by Professor Chung-Kil Hur’s team in 2016 was introduced into the world’s only proven commercial compiler CompCert. He developed a valid concurrency programming model, which had long remained as an unresolved issue, and presented theories and practical solutions that solidified the multi-core execution environment.
Professor Hur and his software principles research lab has consistently published papers for the past 10 years in one of the two most recognized academic bodies in computer language: POPL (Principled of Programming Language) and PLDI (Programming Language Design and Implementation).
Such an achievement marks to be the 4th in the world, previously achieved only by Alexander Aiken of Stanford University, Sumit Gulwani of Microsoft Research and Derek Dreyer of the Max Planck Institute.
"The split compilation verification technology that we have developed over the years has been introduced into the world’s only proven commercial compilers and is gaining more momentum in its related follow-up researches," said SNU Professor Chung-Kil Hur. "We will strive for innovative research that can have a greaters global influence in the future," he added.
