SNU College of Engineering (Dean Kookheon Char) announced on December 16 that Professor Kukjin Chun of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering was selected was selected by the American Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) as the most highly honored Fellow Member last month.
IEEE is the world's most prestigious academic institution in electricity, electronics, semiconductors and telecommunications, with 400,000 members from 160 countries. Only those members of IEEE that have achieved research and technical achievements within the highest 0.1% are selected as a Fellow Member.
Professor Kukjin Chun was appointed as a Fellow of the IEEE Sensor Council in recognition of his leading contribution in technologies for microelectromechanical systems technology developments.
As the general manager of the joint research and infrastructure project for micro precision machinery, Professor Chun became the first in Korea to build a joint MEMS/sensor manufacturing facility at the Inter-university Semiconductor Research Center of SNU and contributed greatly to related education and research. Also being the general manager of the Ministry of Energy's Next-generation New Technology Development Project, he also developed a fourth-generation wireless transceiver with some 60 researchers from 16 organizations including Samsung Electronics . He published 348 papers in journals and international academic conferences, applied for 126 patents, and based on such achievements, he won the Merit for National Foundation in Creativity (1st Grade), the highest honor in science and technology, from the President of the Republic of Korea.
"From 2017 to 2019, Professor Kukjin Chun served as a member of the Board of Directors of IEEE headquarters and as Chairman of Asia/Oceania and has contributed globally by promoting international exchanges in the science and technology sector as Chairman of IEEE SENSORS 2015," claimed SNU. "Following his selection as a Fellow Member, he is soon to be the Vice Chairman of IEEE Member & Geographic Activities (MGA) from 2020," they added.
