SNU College of Engineering announced on March 14 that NANO Systems Institute-National Core Research Center (SOFT Foundry) and Noul Co., a startup for AI-based diagnostic medical devices, signed an MOU for business cooperation at SNU.

The strategic alliance calls for working in cooperation to create new businesses for next-generation diagnostic medical devices. SNU's SOFT Foundry and Noul will work together to ▲ develop Noul's staining and immuno-analysis technologies related to the "next generation diagnostic cartridge" ▲ develop new materials and ▲ develop innovative diagnostic techniques based on fusion technology.

SNU's SOFT Foundry is a research institute that develops processes and technologies tailored for future-oriented paradigms through convergence technologies in various fields including materials, electronics, mechanical aviation, chemical engineering and biotechnology. This had been achievable due to their establishment of a cooperative development technological infrastructure using standardized processes, various research equipment, and a network of excellent SNU faculty.

The AI-based medical devices company Noul has developed AI-based medical devices to enable precision microscopy tests that are currently only available in large hospitals, even in resource-limited medical environments such as local hospitals and in developing countries. Through the use of the "next-generation diagnostic cartridge", the world's first solid staining technology developed by Noul, one can conduct a Gold Standard Microscopy without any liquid reagents or washing.

The two organizations have already confirmed to show synergy and compatibility multiple times last December when having invited the world-renowned Harvard University professor Hidde Ploef to hold a joint seminar. It is also expected that the cooperation will run smoothly as all five of Noul's management members have completed their undergraduate, master's, doctorate or cooperative research at SNU. More than anything else, as much as it is a meeting of convergence technology institutions, there are growing expectations that it will bring innovation to the next generation of diagnostic medicine.

"Through this MOU, SNU's SOFT Foundry and Noul wish to drive the development of next-generation newly growing business technologies," commented SNU. "To establish a collaborative research culture, the two organizations will explore challenging issues that threaten human health or life and train creative researchers to find new solutions."
