SNU College of Engineering announced on June 7 that SNU Engineering Consulting Center (Center Director Kisuk Kang) will implement a "Gongzone 34 non-face-to-face online start-up mentoring" to revitalize startups that have been stagnant due to COVID-19.

The program, co-organized by SNU College of Engineering's start-up support organization SNU Technology Start-up Plaza and Haedong Idea Factory, is expected to actively utilize the pool of excellent start-up support experts held by SNU's College of Engineering.

"While the overall economic situation is difficult due to the unprecedented Corona crisis, we will support prospective start-ups through the sharing of technologies, know-hows and networks of universities, and contribute to revitalizing the economy through professional start-up mentoring," stated SNU. "We will support customized mentoring and consulting optimized for prospective and existing start-ups who have difficulties in starting their own businesses."

Applicants of the online mentoring program will be matched with dedicated mentors and will conduct online mentoring using video conferencing systems such as Zoom or Hangout on schedule. Currently being at the beta testing stage, two professors (Professor Jong Su Lee and Professor Jang-gil Kim) at the SNU Engineering Consulting Center are leading the start-ups as mentors.

The mentoring program will be conducted primarily for SNU students and graduates. It plans to continue to systematize the "Gongzone 34 non-face-to-face online start-up mentoring system" to gradually expand the size and target of support.

The SNU Technology Startup Plaza (Gongzone 34), where the program will be held, is a space of great meaning due to its construction in 2017 when Seok-soo Kim, Chairman of Dongsuh Food, donated funds for engineering development.

"We need the wisdom to prepare for the future by taking advantage of the crisis caused by the COVID-19 crisis," Dean Kookheon Char of SNU College of Engineering. "This program will help many startups, whose activities have been dampened by recent developments, and aid them to find breakthroughs and create new values."
