SNU College of Engineering (Dean Kookheon Char) announced on May 29 that its SNU College of Engineering faculty participated in the production of EDISON E-learning.
EDISON MOOC (https://elearning.edison.re.kr/) is an E-learning educational site. As demand for non-face-to-face learning increased recently due to COVID-19, EDISON opened additional fields of structural dynamics, computational chemistry, computer design, and computer medicine in addition to existing computer thermofluidics and nanophysical fields.
The field of EDISON MOOC computerized thermofluids consists of a total of six curricula and 610 contents. Chongam Kim, a professor of aerospace engineering, will give a lecture on the introduction of computer fluid mechanics, which contains basic information in the field of computer fluid mechanics. Professor Kyu Hong Kim of the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Professor Shin Hyung Rhee of Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, respectively, teach classes in space-differences and boundary conditions so that users can properly utilize computer fluid dynamics. In addition, learning courses are organized to learn about basic and advanced knowledge of computer fluid dynamics such as time differential method, grid generation, and turbulent theory.
The field of structural dynamics has also been added, consisting of a total of three curricula and 35 contents. Professor Sang Joon Shin of the Department of Aerospace Engineering at SNU College of Engineering, filmed a lecture on principles of virtual work, which is essential for inducing computational structural mechanics formulas. In addition, a learning process is organized to learn basic and advanced knowledge in structural dynamics such as computerized structural analysis and aircraft structural analysis.
EDISON helps with in-depth engineering education by not only the provision of educational contents but also a computerized simulation environment of Science App and Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI). To give an example, based on 106 Science Apps, the field specializing in computerized thermofluids supports flow, heat transfer, ship resistance, propeller performance analysis and optimal design and design framework, power data base, as well as pre and post-processing functions.
Currently, EDISON is used in such a way by many university lectures in Korea. Using this, students are conducting various computer exercises linked to their subject classes, and can carry out self-directed learning activities by carrying out projects and participating in contests.
"By actively utilizing online platforms such as EDISON, we hope to attain great educational leaps for engineering students who need non-face-to-face lectures," said SNU College of Engineering. "We expect non-face-to-face lectures to be actively improved by the participation of professors at SNU College of Engineering," they added.
