The SNU Graduate School of Engineering Practice (President Kookheon Char, Dean of the College of Engineering) held the 5th EPM Congress on June 12 in collaboration with the Engineering Project Management (EPM) course at the College of Engineering.
The event was held online in real-time to prevent the risk of spreading COVID-19. The event, which was successfully held with the participation of experts from the George Washington University of the United States and Kyushu University in Japan, is open to anyone to watch it for free (epmcamp.snu.ac.kr) for a month.
The EPM Congress was first launched in February 2018 to create engineering jobs and opportunities for new businesses, and having been held twice a year, has been held a total of six times, including this year. The goal is to design feasible projects in 2020 and to build a platform for innovative growth in the fourth industrial revolution that can carry out continuous performance-generating projects by 2030.
The morning event, which was attended by not just SNU members but any student interested in the topic as well as industry-academic experts, was accompanied by an EPM showcase under the theme of "Smart City," and a conference under the theme of "Post-Pandemics and Project Leadership" and "Artificial Intelligence and Project
Management" in the afternoon. The EPM showcase was presented in the United States in real time by Professor Young Hoon Kwak, a Professor at the George Washington University, under the theme "SMART CITY: From Fantasy to Reality." Jaehyun Lee, an SNU researcher who has been dispatched to the George Washington University for a year to support the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's innovative growth global talent development project, followed to shared his research results attained over the past 3 days in a review session of "The Evolution of Korean Smart City Programs" which was announced at the IEEE Technical Engineering Management Society International Conference (TEMSCON 2020).
The afternoon event involved a keynote presentation by NFN’s Dr. Hojae Lee regarding the special topic of "Post-Pandemic Leadership; Focused on Health and Safety" followed by a presentation and discussion session of "Post-Pandemic and Project, Program and Portfolio Management."
At the conference, P6ix CEO Daechul Jang's keynote presentation was held under the theme of "Artificial Intelligence and Project Management." In the panel discussion, SNU Professor Changwoo Park Headed the panel, and experts, including POSTECH Professor Daegeun Hong, Kyushu University Assistant Professor Unho Lee, and Eunsang Yoon, PMC of National Agency for Administrative City Construction, discussed major issues.
"Although COVID-19 made it was difficult to organize, we confirmed that it was possible to exchange interactions between experts and share research results beyond the walls of time and space. This was an effort to be competitive after the post-pandemic change acting as a demonstration stage for creating new opportunities," said
Changwoo Park, a Senior Professor at SNU's EPM, who prepared for the event. "In December this year, we will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the EPM at the College of Engineering and continue to create concrete results in the future vision for value creation," he added..
