Jungwon Park, Assistant Professor of SNU College of Engineering Selected as Winner of Hanseong Science Award

A young scientist who has produced outstanding original research results in the field of chemistry.

Jungwon Park, an Assistant Professor of the SNU Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, was selected as the winner of the 3rd Hanseong Science Award. The Hanseong Science Award was established by the Hanseong Sonjaehan Scholarship Foundation in hopes of producing Korea's Nobel Prize winners, and has been selecting young scientists who have been conducting original research in chemistry, physics and life sciences since 2018.
 
The Hanseong Sonjaehan Scholarship Foundation (Chairman Myung-ah Son) and the Hanseong Science Award Review Committee announced on June 25 that they selected Assistant Professor Jungwon Park, Assistant Professor Bohm Jung Yang of the SNU Department of Physics and Astronomy and Assistant Professor Chirlmin Joo of the Department of Bionanoscience at the Delft University in the Netherlands, as the winners of the 3rd Hanseong Science Award. The winners will be awarded a plaque and prize money worth 50 million won.
 
Assistant Professor Jungwon Park is creatively building a new field of research called real-time analysis of nano materials using liquid permeable electron microscopes. "Professor Jungwon Park's research achievements suggest new possibilities to solve the three-dimensional structure analysis problem of atomic resolution level liquid phase, which is the ultimate goal and challenge in the field of structural protein and material determinism, and is expected to contribute to the development of various basic and applied academic fields in the future," commented the Hanseong Science Award Committee, explaining their reasons for having selected him as an awardee.
 
"As a young scholar, I would like to thank those related for awarding such an overwhelming award that encourages the contribution to the development of science and technology in the Republic of Korea," said Assistant Professor Jungwon Park. "We will try to find new fields of research and focus on original research to contribute to the development of science in the Republic of Korea," he added.
