Professor Woojae Seong of SNU Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering Selected as a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America (ASA)

SNU College of Engineering (Dean Kook Heon Char) announced on 7th that Professor Woojae Seong of the Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering has been elected a fellow of the Acoustical Society of America (ASA).
The ASA is a leading international society for scientists and engineers that is dedicated to the field of acoustics. It currently has over 8000 members from around the world.
Professor Seong is acknowledged for his contributions to solving the issue of geoacoustic inversion, a core topic of hydroacoustics, and researching on signal processing in oceans.
Seong finished his BS and MS at SNU Department of Naval Architecture and received his PhD at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After a year of postdoctoral research at MIT, Seong came to Korea to focus on education and research at Inha University. In 1996, he returned to his alma mater to teach at the Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering as a professor. He is currently conducting researches on sonar construction of navy ships and submarines to help the development of Korea’s defense industry and the improvement of navy’s defense force.
Fellow is the highest membership of ASA granted only to individuals with outstanding personal achievements, technological accomplishments, and professional experiences. Since 1929, there are currently 550 ASA Fellow members. Professor Seong is the third Korean ASA Fellow.
