SNU College of Engineering Signs MOU with Cloud-Microsoft to Expand Cloud-Based Research and Training

SNU College of Engineering (Dean Kookheon Char) announced on October 16 of the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Amazon Web Service (AWS), Google Cloud (Partner HanJoo Lee, CEO of Bespin Global), and Microsoft Azure (President HyunJung Kim of Microsoft's public education business division in Korea) to expand the use of the cloud for research and educational activities ("SNU College of Engineering Cloud First" Program).
Under the MOU, SNU will be provided with cloud resources on favorable terms to develop new technologies such as AI and Big Data. In addition, through the collaboration for △ the expansion of cloud-based technologies and △ cloud-based education, the expansion of cloud technologies inside and outside the university will be jointly promoted.
The MOU was catalyzed by the rapid increase in demand for high-performance computers in schools and the increased use of external cloud services. Since the MOU, it seems that it will be possible to reduce computing budgets and respond flexibly to demands that will continue to increase. It is also possible to practice cloud computing environment, which is used in contemporary fields, which means students are also expected to strengthen their capabilities.
"With this MOU, we have built a foundation to foster core human resources and accelerate technological innovation in the fourth industrial revolution by utilizing cloud platforms owned by AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft," said Dean Kookheon Char of the SNU College of Engineering. "We will further strengthen our capabilities in the field of cloud-based research and education through continued partnerships with domestic and foreign cloud companies in the future," he added.
