Seoul National University College of Engineering Graduate School of Artificial Intelligence (hereinafter referred to as SNU) and Samsung SDS Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Samsung SDS) established an AI joint research center to create synergy between academia and industry through joint research regarding technology development in the field of artificial intelligence.
 
On the March 24, the two organizations held an agreement ceremony and opening ceremony at the College of Engineering at Seoul National University and agreed to a mid- to long-term cooperation through exchanges of material and human resources. The agreement ceremony was conducted in the order of introduction of the joint research center, the MOU signing ceremony, after which there was the signboard ceremony.
 
From Seoul National University, Shin Hyung Rhee – Vice Dean of the Department of Planning and Innovation, Thomas Kang - Head of the Center for Innovation in Engineering Education, Hyuk-Jae Lee - Dean of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Soonhoi Ha - Dean of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, and Professor Sungroh Yoon as the director of the joint research center and Professor Bohyung Han - a professor at the joint research center attended.
 
From Samsung SDS, research director Sang-Wook Lee, vice-director Seungjai Min, head of the ML center Taehee Lee and the technology strategy team leader Tae-Hyun Kim were seated.
 
“I hope that the launch of the AI Joint Research Center between Samsung SDS and Seoul National University will lay a solid foundation for the development of related industries and human resources that will become Korea's future growth engines. As Samsung SDS, with its world-class capabilities in artificial intelligence and big data, is cooperating with Seoul National University, the leading institution for training talented individuals, I have no doubt in saying that meaningful and tangible results will continue to be created,” said professor Shin Hyung Rhee, Vice Dean of the Department of Planning and Innovation at the College of Engineering, conveying his greetings at the ceremony.
 
“The importance of industry-academia cooperation is heightening more than ever with the recent advances in artificial intelligence and big data technology. We hope that the launch of the AI joint research center between Samsung SDS and Seoul National University will lay a solid foundation for the development of related industries and human resources development, which will become Korea's future growth engines," said Sungroh Yoon, director of the joint research center when commenting on the establishment of the center.
