Seoul National University's College of Engineering (Dean Kookheon Char) announced on May 7 that an "Industry-Academic Cooperation UAM/Smart City Business Agreement (MOU)" was signed with the Gyeonggi Housing & Urban Development Corporation (GH).
Urban Air Mobility (UAM) is a collective term for urban air traffic, i.e., aircraft, operations and services. In conjunction with smart cities, it is a high-tech air transportation method that is expected to be active as a means of concentrating the population in metropolitan areas and solving the issue of congestion in the ground transportation network.
With the Seoul National University College of Engineering’s Institute of Construction and Environmental Engineering at its center, the role of practical cooperation will be led by Professor Young-Sang Kwon of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and together with Gyeonggi Housing & Urban Development Corporation, a system of industry-academia-research cooperation, such as joint research and sharing of ideas related to UAM and smart city and application of demonstration complexes, will be established.
The two organizations will co-host academic conferences and develop education and research programs to promote long-term mutual development in line with the third basic aviation policy plan and the Korean-style urban air transportation roadmap.
"We expect that this agreement will strengthen our research and education capabilities by establishing cooperative relationships such as joint research and idea sharing regarding UAM and smart cities and cooperation in the application of demonstration complexes," said Dean Kookheon Char.
