Seoul National University College of Engineering announced that it held a completion ceremony for the Talent Development Center of the SNU Inter-university Semiconductor Research Center on June 16 at the Gwanak Campus.

As a leading institution in Korea's semiconductor research and education ecosystem, the SNU Inter-university Semiconductor Research Center provides over 30,000 semiconductor processing services annually and has trained more than 1,200 skilled professionals. The newly completed Talent Development Center is expected to serve as a central hub for nurturing semiconductor talent, leveraging the center's accumulated achievements and experience.

The ceremony was attended by SNU President Honglim Ryu, Vice Minister of Education Seok-hwan Oh, Dean Young-oh Kim of the SNU College of Engineering, Executive Vice President Sang-Jin Hyun of Samsung Electronics, Executive Vice President Sang-Kyu Shin of SK hynix, and Vice Chairman Chang-Sik Choi of DB HiTek, among other dignitaries. The event began with a report by Operations Director Jaeha Kim, followed by a welcome speech by Director Hyuk Jae Lee, and congratulatory remarks from President Ryu and Vice Minister Oh, concluding with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

In his speech, President Ryu stated, "With the completion of the Talent Development Center, Seoul National University is poised to further evolve as a global hub for semiconductor talent training and research.“

Director Lee emphasized, "This milestone marks a significant step forward in leveraging the expertise accumulated over 37 years by the Inter-university Semiconductor Research Center to cultivate the next generation of core talent. We will do our utmost to foster world-class semiconductor research and education.“

Construction of the Talent Development Center began with a groundbreaking ceremony on June 20, 2023, and was completed after approximately two years. The facility spans one basement level and six above-ground floors, with a building area of 991.33 square meters and a total floor area of 4,202.58 square meters. The sixth floor houses administrative and operational offices; the third through fifth floors contain research labs and meeting rooms; and the second floor is dedicated to classrooms and support facilities for semiconductor education.

Notably, the research spaces are designed to encourage interdisciplinary collaboration, enabling students from diverse academic backgrounds to interact and conduct all stages of research—from specimen fabrication to measurement and analysis—in a single location. This setup is expected to accelerate both research innovation and the cultivation of top-tier talent at the center.

Going forward, the Talent Development Center will function as a key base for practical research and hands-on training in the semiconductor field. Having long served as a cradle for Korea's semiconductor talent, the SNU Inter-university Semiconductor Research Center is now set to demonstrate new leadership through the opening of this state-of-the-art facility.
