Seoul National University College of Engineering announced that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Korea University Guro Hospital on February 19 at the Gwanak Campus to advance research on pathological mechanisms and develop convergent innovative medical technologies.
The signing ceremony was attended by Dean Young-Oh Kim, Vice Dean for Research Bok Jik Lee, Prof. Junsang Doh (Department of Materials Science and Engineering), Prof. Sang Taek Jung (Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering), as well as Korea University Guro Hospital President Byung Wook Min, Vice President for Research Kum-Joon Cho, and Prof. Sanghee Kang of the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery.
Through this agreement, the two institutions plan to establish a robust collaborative framework for research on disease mechanisms and the development of convergent innovative medical technologies, laying the foundation to lead future medical paradigms.
In particular, moving beyond simple academic exchange, the partnership will focus on generating tangible outcomes in clinical settings by promoting multifaceted cooperation, including joint research projects and shared use of core research infrastructure, sharing of the latest research data and publications, exchange of outstanding research personnel and organization of joint seminars, and the creation and protection of joint intellectual property based on interdisciplinary research results.
This agreement is expected to maximize synergy by organically combining SNU Engineering’s advanced technological capabilities with Korea University Guro Hospital’s outstanding clinical expertise, ultimately leading to innovative solutions that address critical challenges in medical practice.
Dean Young-Oh Kim stated, “Seoul National University College of Engineering, a leading hub of advanced technology in Korea, and Korea University Guro Hospital, with its extensive clinical experience, are located in close proximity. This enables active collaboration that can maximize synergy and transform the medical paradigm. In addition to the ongoing ‘Korean-style ARPA-H project,’ we will actively support the joint acquisition of major national research projects and the development of innovative biomedical engineering technologies to lead the future medical industry.”
President Byung Wook Min added, “We expect that the rich clinical experience and excellent research infrastructure of Korea University Guro Hospital, combined with the advanced technological capabilities of SNU Engineering, will create powerful synergy to lead the future of medicine. Building on this agreement, we will spare no effort in supporting the development of innovative convergent medical technologies that address unmet clinical needs and provide tangible benefits to patients.”
