SNU–RWTH Aachen Mechanical Engineering Program Graduates First Dual Master’s Degree Cohort
Achievement marks a milestone in cultivating global talent in advanced mechanical engineering through strong bilateral collaboration

Seoul National University (SNU) and RWTH Aachen University of Germany have successfully produced the first graduates of their jointly operated dual master’s degree program in mechanical engineering.

The inaugural graduates are Deogsu Kim and Stefan Kind, an international student from Germany. Both students completed their master’s degrees on February 25 under the supervision of Prof. Sung-Hoon Ahn of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at SNU, marking the first outcome of the program.

In addition, Deogsu Kim obtained a master’s degree from RWTH Aachen University’s Department of Mechanical Engineering on March 12. Under the supervision of Prof. Luz Eckstein, he completed his thesis titled “Exploring Mixed Reality Human-Machine Interfaces for Enhanced Driving Experience and Safety.”

Stefan Kind is currently conducting research under the supervision of Prof. Christian Brecher on the topic “Inaudible LLM-based Communication System for Robot-Robot Collaboration,” and is expected to receive his master’s degree from RWTH Aachen University in September.

SNU and RWTH Aachen University, both recognized for offering world-class education in mechanical engineering, jointly operate the dual master’s degree program with the goal of nurturing global leaders who will drive future advancements in cutting-edge mechanical engineering fields.

The successful graduation of the first cohort is regarded as a milestone achievement of collaboration between the two institutions and is expected to mark the beginning of producing outstanding global talent through the program.
