□ Plans to adjust social distancing measures in the Seoul metropolitan area

  • ○ (Period) Two weeks from Mon, Jul. 12 to Sun, Aug. 22
    • – The authorities will monitor the pandemic for new cases for two weeks to determine whether to adjust the level or extend the period
      * First dose of vaccine will begin Jul. 26 for those in their 50s, and between August and September for those in their 20s to 40s
  • ○ (Scope) New level 4 social distancing measures across the Seoul metropolitan area
    • – As for Incheon, new level 2 social distancing measures will be implemented in Ganghwa-do Island and Ongjin-gun
  • ○ (Details) Minimize physical contact to prevent further pandemic outbreak
    • – (Message) Refrain from private gatherings, avoid going out and return home right after leaving work
    • – (Private gatherings) Up to 4 persons until 6 PM, and up to 2 persons after 6 PM
      * No gatherings under any circumstances, even for families except only in case of housemates, caregivers, and death
    • – (Events and rallies) No events and rallies (except for 1-person rallies)
    • – (Multi-use facilities) No gatherings at entertainment facilities (e.g. clubs, pubs, pick-up bars); restrictions on business hours after 10 PM for all multi-use facilities
    • – (Schools) Online classes according to level 4 social distancing measures
      * Effective starting Wed, Jul. 14 for schools to modify and prepare for changed circumstances
    • – (Church) Online services only; no gathering, events, dining and staying overnight

□ Additional rules applied according to level 4 social distancing measures

  • ○ (Vaccine incentive) Vaccine incentives, which exempted vaccinated people from social distancing measures, will be suspended in areas implementing new level 4 social distancing measures
    * Limited capacity according to floor area, including gatherings of relatives, private gatherings or events, regular religious activities, choir and small gatherings, and multi-use facilities
  • ○ (Entertainment facilities) Expansion of no gathering from initially clubs, pubs, and pick-up bars (according to the currently applied facilities in the Seoul metropolitan area) to now all entertainment facilities
    * Includes clubs, pubs, pick-up bars, colatecs, dancing halls, hold’em pubs, and casinos
  • ○ (Performance rules and regulations) Regular performance facilities may hold performances under strict COVID-19 protocol, but no temporary indoor/outdoor performances since they are seen as one-off events
    * Large-scale performances at gymnasiums and parks regardless of genre/type

* 389 in Seoul + 537 in Gyeonggi Province + 118 in Incheon = More than 1,000 in the Seoul metropolitan area

Events and rallies No events or protests allowed except 1-person rallies
* Weddings and funerals limited to visits by relatives only (up to 49 relatives)
Sports No spectators
Religious activities Contactless religious activities only; no gathering, events, dining and staying overnight
Workplaces Set different commute and lunch hours for workers except in manufacturing companies, and encourage 30% of staff to work from home
Multi-use facilities ▶ Number of people allowed: 8 m2 of facility per one person (fundamental*)

 

* Apply appropriate rules reflecting features of facilities, such as colatecs dance halls, restaurants and cafes

▶ Hours: Restrictions on business hours after 10 PM for some entertainment facilities (e.g. pubs, bars), karaoke rooms, restaurants, cafes, indoor gyms, movie theaters, Internet cafes, private academies that fall into groups 1 to 3*

▶ No gatherings: Clubs (including night clubs), pubs and pick-up bars

* Multi-use facilities categorized into groups
