the College of Engineering would like to inform you about the situation of Covid-19 at the College of Engineering and Seoul National University.
 
Update March 18, 17:00:
SARS-CoV-2 test result negative for graduate student from building 314.
Restricted access and disinfection of 2nd floor of building 314: March 17-20.

In case you came in contact with infected people, please report this fact as soon as possible by calling the Welcome Center (1172, 1173) or the Administration of the College of Engineering (7005, 7006).

1. Research staff member A from building 311
1. Situation
Showed flu-like symptoms after traveling to Daegu on several occasions (February 15-16, 18-19)
SARS-CoV-2 test results negative (February 21, 19:30)
 
2. Preventive measures
The staff member has been put in self-quarantine
Building 311 has been disinfected
 

2. Research staff member B from building 301
1. Situation
Both parents of the staff member have been tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 (mother: 02/22, father: 02/23)
The staff member herself has tested negative for the virus (February 24, 09:00)

2. Preventive measures
Staff member B has been put in self-quarantine until March 4
Building 301 and the cafeteria in building 302 have been disinfected
Building 301 access restrictions
- entire building: until February 24, 12:00
- 301 10th floor: until February 25, 12:00
The staff member has been release from self-quarantine on March 5, 00:00.
 

3. Undergraduate student in leave of absence tested positive for SARS-CoV-2
1. Situation
March 8, 15:00-15:15: the student visited SNU’s central library
March 13: infection confirmed, student placed under medical care
An exchange student who came in contact with the infected person tested negative, but is in self-quarantine in the Hoam Faculty House

2. Preventive measures
Central library: resumed normal operations on March 14 after disinfection
 

4. Graduate student from building 314
1. Situation
March 12: a passenger on the same flight back to Korea has tested positive for SARS-CoV-2
March 16: the student has been put under self-quarantine until March 26
March 17: the student is being tested for SARS-CoV-2
March 18: the student’s test result are negative

2. Preventive measures
Members of the same lab have been sent home
No need for access restrictions or disinfectino of building 314 as nobody shows symptoms
Access to the second floor of building 314 is restricted from March 17-20 and the entire floor is being disinfected to address concerns by people working there.

In summary: so far, we know of two members of our college who came in contact with infected people; luckily, the tests in both cases came back negative. Nevertheless, both persons are currently under self-quarantine. As preemptive measures, buildings 301 + 311 and the cafeteria in building 302 have been disinfected over the past weekend.

▶ Information regarding Graduate Students in Military Service (전문연구요원 복무)

Information for students who perform their military duties as researchers (전문연구요원 복무) from the Military Manpower Administration (서울지방 병무청):
  1. if a student cannot come to the lab due to access restrictions imposed by the college, this cannot be reported as 'official holiday'
  2. the student must record his working hours as usual using one of the palm readers. The students are advised to disinfect their hands using the disinfectants placed next to the palm readers before doing so.

as the number of infected people continues to rise, the national virus alert level has been raised to the highest level on Sunday, February 23.

Fortunately, there have been no confirmed cases at the College of Engineering so far, however, some of our members have come in contact with infected people. As a preemptive measure, the affected staff members have been placed under self-quarantine and building 301, the cafeteria in building 302, and building 311 have been disinfected. The college will continue to monitor the situation closely and react swiftly if required.
