SNU College of Engineering (Dean Lee Kun-woo) stated on 28th that Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) selected Professor Kiyoung Choi and Professor Deog-Kyoon Jeong from Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Professor Soonhoi Ha from Department of Computer Science and Engineering as fellows.

Globally, it is a rare event that three people are selected as fellows simultaneously.

The fellow is the highest level in IEEE; only top 0.1% is selected among prominent and contributing researchers with more than 10 years of career in the area of electrics, electronics, communications and etc. IEEE selects via seven criteria such as personal achievements, technical accomplishments and specialty career histories and gives awarding ceremony in the annual meetings.

IEEE fellow selectee Professor Kiyoung Choi received the B.S. degree in Electronics Engineering from Seoul National University, the M.S. degree from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, and the Ph.D. degree from Stanford University. In 1991, he joined the faculty of the Department of Electronics Engineering, Seoul National University and he served as a professor of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering since then. His primary interests are in VLSI design and various aspects of computer-aided design including hardware-software codesign and low-power system design. Especially, he conducted a number of follow-up studies on low-powered real-time system designs. Based on these works, he received Science and Technology Paper Awards and Samsung Paper Awards.

Professor Deog-Kyoon Jeong received the B.S. degree and the M.S. degree in Electronics Engineering, Seoul National University and received the Ph.D. degree from University of California, Berkeley. Since 1991, he has been working as a faculty member in Seoul National University Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He conducts fervent research on integrated circuits and he co-founded Silicon Image in Silicon Valley, USA in 1991. He developed and commercialized general standards on flat panel display technology. Based on these works he received Inter-university Semiconductor Research Center Creation Awards, Young Engineer Award from National Academy of Engineering of Korea and Ho-Am Engineering Prize.

Professor Soonhoi Ha received the B.S. degree and the M.S. degree in Electronics Engineering, Seoul National University and received the Ph.D. degree from University of California, Berkeley. Professor Ha actively does the research on embedded systems design. Especially, his outstanding performance includes hardware-software codesign based on formal models of computation. He is also served as the chairman in various international conferences.

Meanwhile, IEEE is the most prestigious conference in the area of electrical and electronic engineering, computing and communication technology. Now IEEE has about 400 thousands members from around 160 countries. IEEE publishes 30% of documents related to electrical and electronic engineering, computer science, and communication of all around the world. Also, IEEE has set up around 1300 industrial standards.
