The Sinyang Engineering Academic Awards were founded by the late Jung Suk-Kyu, an alumnus of SNU College of Engineering and the Chief Director of the Sinyang Cultural Foundation. The awards were founded for young professors by contributing to the university development fund, and were named after the pseudonym of Chief Director Jung.
The prizes were awarded to the most prominent professors and associate professors under the age of 49. The awards were founded in 2005 and this year was the 12th. There have been around 70 young professors, between the ages of 30 to 40, were awarded and were encouraged in their research works.
Meanwhile, the late Jung Suk-Kyu, the founder of Sinyang Engineering Academic Awards and the Chief Director, graduated SNU Department of Chemical Engineering in 1952, and operated and managed Taesung Rubber Chemical for 50 years. In 2001, he disposed the company and founded Sinyang Cultural Foundation, and donated Sinyang Academic Digital Library I, II, and III to SNU.
Jung relocated Sinyang Cultural Foundation to Sinyang Academic Digital Library in SNU and started comprehensive scholarship business and passed away in 2005, at the age of 85. Now, Sinyang Cultural Foundation is managed by SNU.
