SNU Professor Hong Sung-Gul team developed new-concept concrete which enables various architectural expressions for the first time domestically

-UHPC which maintains maximum 10 times strength compared to normal concrete
-Enables preferred shape, color and texture … diversifies domestic exterior building design

SNU College of Engineering (Dean Lee Kun-woo) stated on 27th that SNU Department of Architecture and Architectural Engineering Professor Hong Sung-Gul team developed ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) for the first time domestically.
 
UHPC has super strength and super flow ability, and has been used as special structure material in home and abroad. The research team added tension resistance to the previous concrete with compression resistance and developed UHPC with more architectural expressional freedom.
 
With this new UHPC material, we can demonstrate desired shape, color and texturing while maintaining 5~10 times strength, fluidity, and durability compared to normal concrete. This received praise that it offered various options for domestic construction exterior design.
 
Professor Hong said, “We have registered patent for UHPC manufacturing since this is domestically first success. We are now researching for commercializing UHPC products.”
 
Meanwhile, Dr. Kang who received Ph.D. degree at SNU College of Engineering for this research is signing formal contract with National University of Singapore (NUS) from this March and starting the UHPC research with the local materials as a researcher.
