Opening ceremony of International Nuclear Power Conference ‘M&C 2017’

College of Engineering of Seoul National University announced that International Conference on Mathematics & Computational method (M&C) which was held by professor Joo, Han-Gyu of Department of Nuclear Engineering was opened in Jeju international convention center with 458 scholars from 30 countries.

It is an authorized academic conference which has led the development of nuclear design technology for the past 52 years. The conference is hosted by American Nuclear Society every 2 years since 1965. The conference is opened outside the United States every six years. This Jeju conference is especially meaningful since it is the first time to be held in the Asian country. Professor Joo said “2017 M&C in Korea means recognition of the technology status of Korea, a late-stage nuclear power development country, by international academic community”

The M&C conference which will be held from 16th to the 20th, was the largest in M&C history. In the midst of the Thaad (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) deployment issue and the crisis on the Korean Peninsula, the whole participation of 320 foreign pre-registered researchers including 132 Americans and 35 Chinese implies a lots of things in international perspective toward the nuclear power technology and Korea’s safety.
