Seoul National University, College of Engineering (Dean Kunwoo Lee) announced that Prof. Jung Dong Lee of the graduate school of Technology management economics and policy program.
‘Roads to Accumulation’ is a follow-up to a book ‘Time of Accumulation (2015)’ by faculty members of Seoul National University, College of Engineering, which diagnoses that the core elements for the development of Korea economy lie in the accumulation of empirical knowledge through trial and errors. The book ‘Roads to Accumulation’ suggest several alternatives of ‘how to accumulate’
The author Prof. Lee introduces four proposals and five accumulation strategies. As a representative, it ironically emphasizes the necessity of opening ‘Period of Masters’. Since trial and errors are precious experiences, it is desired to nurture individual ‘masters’ who carved the experiences into the body like a scar. To achieve this, it requires a ‘Risk Sharing Society’ where individuals challenge without fear of failures. What makes a ‘Risk Sharing Society’ is a ‘small betting scale-up strategy’. Scale-up means the process of completing an idea to an innovation.
Prof. Lee said in the book, “The first step to the roads of accumulation starts from the tough breaking up of the convention of implementing which led us to the huge success”. He emphasizes that we should abandon decision-making process which only emphasizes the efficiency although it led us to the success in the past.
Meanwhile, Prof. Lee served as a President of a Korea Productivity Association (2011) and he is serving as a President of Korea Corporation Management Association(2017). Furthermore, he is working as an editor of international paper journal ‘Technovation’ in innovative policy division. He is contributing to the academic development of Technology Management and Technology Policy as he published a specialized book ‘Policy and Engineering Technology’ and a Korean translation of ‘An Evolutionary Theory of Economics’ and published more than domestic/international 100 academic papers.
