Prof. Sang-Woo Seo of Seoul National University was awarded the 2nd Miwon Commercial Co., Ltd New Scientist Award.

 Seoul National University, College of Engineering (Dean Kun-woo Lee) announced on 11th that Prof. Sang-Woo Seo of the school of Chemical and Biological Engineering was awarded the 2nd Miwon Commercial Co., Ltd New Scientist Award by The Korean Society Of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry. ‘Miwon Commercial Co., Ltd New Scientist Award’ was newly established last year, sponsored by Miwon Commercial Co., Ltd to encourage competent new researchers who are expected to make continuous contributions to the development of the academic field of industrial chemistry and to achieve outstanding achievements in this field.
 
Prof. Sang-Woo Seo was selected as a prize winner of the 2nd Miwon Commercial Co., Ltd New Scientist Award thanks to his presentation about ‘Development of Microbial Cell Factories by Systems and Synthetic Biology Approaches’ on the 2016 fall conference by The Korean Society of Industrial And Engineering Chemistry.
 
Prof. Sang-Woo Seo said, “I am honored to be selected as a winner of the Miwon Commercial Co., Ltd New Scientist Award which aims to excavate and support young scientists. I believe that the use of microorganisms through the combined research of synthetic biology and system biology will solve various challenges faced by humankind.”
 
Prof. Sang-Woo Seo graduated from POSTECH with a Bachelor of chemical engineering (2007) and with a Ph.D. degree in chemical engineering (2012). After obtaining Ph.D., he worked as a postdoctoral researcher in UCSD, United States, and has been teaching at Seoul National University, School of Chemical and Biological Engineering since 2016. He is actively conducting researches on synthetic biology system biology and etc based on microorganisms.
