On 23rd, SNU College of Engineering (Dean Lee Kun-Woo) announced that Professor Thomas Kang of Department of Architecture & Architectural Engineering was appointed as the only Associate Editor of PTI Journal. The term is 3 years, and can serve consecutive terms.
‘Post-Tension’ is a construction technique which enables free-form and challenging structures by giving tension to prestressing steel cable after casting concrete. The necessity of this technique in architecture, civil engineering and nuclear facilities is increasing recently, and it became vital in concrete long-span bridges and nuclear containment building.
PTI Journal of Post-Tensioning Institute, which is the foremost authority regarding post-tensioning technique, mainly introduces the latest techniques. The President of PTI also serves as the Editor, so the Associate Editor serves the actual Editor’s role.
Professor Kang received his B.S. in SNU College of Architecture & Architectural Engineering, M.S. in Michigan State University, and Ph.D. in UCLA. His research interests encompass subjects like concrete structure design and performance evaluation. He was an Assistant Professor of civil engineering at the University of Oklahoma, Norman, since 2007, and now is an Associate Professor of architectural engineering at SNU since 2011.
Professor Kang received Wason Medal for Most Meritorious Paper from American Concrete Institute in 2009, and received PTI Kenneth B. Bondy Award for the Most Meritorious Technical Paper from PTI in 2013. He is also a fellow of both society.
