On 23rd, SNU College of Engineering (Dean Lee Kun-woo) announced that SNU has won a gold medal (ranked 3rd) in ICPC hosted by ACM. This is the first time that a Korean university has won a gold medal.
A prize of 75 million dollars, an invitation to the IBM head office and a guaranteed participation for the contest next year are awarded to the SNU team (Choi Seok-Hwan, Yoon Ji-Hak, Cho Seung-Hyun, academic advisor Yeom Heon-Young).
ICPC is a contest in which the competitors solve complicated programming problems in a limited amount of time using AI. It was first held in 1977, and is a contest for collegians all over the world. 50145 students from 2948 colleges in 103 countries participated in the regional qualification for the contest, and 402 students of 134 teams advanced to the finals. The finals are held in the State of South Dakota, U.S. from May 20th to 25th
