Prof. Sang-Kyun Cha of Seoul National Univerity Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering was appointed as a chairman of ‘Digital Kepco’, which is a new business conducted by Korea LEctric Power Corporation.
Digital KEPCO was the new data base for ICT-based KEPCO new business that will build a new business ecosystem in the electric power industry in the era of the 4th industrial revolution. The ceremony was held on June 2 (Friday) at KEPCO Namseoul area headquarters.
On this day, KEPCO also signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on technology development and human resources development with the Seoul National University Big Data Research Institute, led by Professor Sang-Kyun Cha. In the future, KEPCO-SNU will conduct consultation on the development of public service for electric power sector through utilization and analysis of electric power data, development of strategy for revitalization of electric power big data business, training of human resources and joint research
Prof. Cha also gave a lecture titled <A Road to Digital Innovation Country> and said, "A big company that has the technology that leads the 'dilemma of the innovator' market now in Korea would not achieve innovation at some point. In order to get out of this dilemma, CEOs should focus on the innovative seeds from the outside. Also, we need to foster digital innovative talents who can present new perspectives and creative solutions.“
Meanwhile, Prof. Cha is a scholar and a CEO of a venture company with world-class expertise in data science. After graduating from Seoul National University with BS in electrical engineering and receiving M.S. in control engineering, he received his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Stanford University. Since 1992, he is a professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Seoul National University. He founded TIM, a data processing software venture company in 2000, and he also had field experience as he sold enterprise and technology to SAP enterprise software company for 40 billion won in 2005.
