SNU College of Engineering (Dean Lee Kun-woo) has announced that researcher Sun Jin-Won of Prof. Kim Jang-Joo’s research team has won the ‘Young Scientist Award’ in E-MRS (European Materials Research Society) on May 24^th.
This is the second ‘Young Scientist Award’ the prof. Kim Jang-Joo’s research team has won from E-MRS, with the first award won in 2015.
 
The team harvested all triple state exciton from Fluorescence Organic Light-Emitting Diode, successfully developing high-efficiency Fluorescence Organic Light-Emitting Diode with Quantum efficiency reaching that of phosphorescence Organic Light-Emitting Diode. This new diode has not only high color purity, but also high quantum efficiency. Since the hottest topic in material engineering field is the development of blue fluorescence organic light-emitting diode, both the industrial and academic worlds are paying attention to the potentials of this research.
 
Researcher Sun Jin-Won stated that “we have presented a Fluorescence Organic Light-emitting diode that has efficiency similar to that of a Phosphorescence Organic Light-Emitting Diode.” And that “I expect this research can be used to increase the efficiency and durability of the blue Fluorescence Organic Light-emitting diode applied in Industries.
 
This research has also been published to a number of other academic journals, as a cover paper, such as ‘Advanced Materials’, ‘Chemistry of Materials’, ‘Journal of Material Chemistry C’. The paper published through ‘Advanced Materials’ particularly, has paper citation counts over 130 in just 2 years.
 
E-MRS is a European international symposium, in which over 3000 world’s leading scholars of material engineering discuss the latest research trends and performances. This year, it was held in France.
