Seoul National University Graduate School of Engineering Practice and Business School (MBA) will implement “Master’s Degree in Engineering and Business Management” for the first time in Korea. It intends to cultivate "talented people in the field of integrated business" through thorough education.
Therefore, Dean Kunwoo Lee of College of Engineering and Dean Choelsoon Park of Business School signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on 19th. [△ Providing multiple degrees when completing additional curriculum (classes, start-ups, industry-academy cooperation projects) △ Co-supervising of dual degree students] The details will be discussed with the university headquarters and will be implemented from the next year.
Especially, the dual degree focuses on establishing start-ups. Therefore, it is expected that the breadth and depth of education will be different because it is possible to receive the dual degree with a regular master's course of about 2 ~ 3 years. The core of this dual degree system is the 'entrepreneurial track', which connects start-ups and education. The number of students will be 20 ~ 30, and instead of having a separate admission, students from both departments will be admitted for the dual degree course if they apply for it.
The Graduate School of Engineering and the Business School plan to cooperate with business-related fields in addition to the dual degree system. They will actively pursue human exchanges between institutes such as Venture Business Entrepreneurs Center of Business Administration and Technology Entrepreneurship Center. Furthermore, they will establish integrated undergraduate courses. These were hard to be conducted before due to the barrier between two departments.
Dean Lee said, "Just as a developer (technology), a planner (management), and a designer (design) come together to create a start-up, engineering and management will cooperate thoroughly and focus on practical training.” He also mentioned that cooperation with College of Art is now under consideration.
Dean Choelsoon Park said "It has long been a concern for me that start-ups in Engineering do not have foundations on marketing strategies and start-ups in Business School do not have foundations on technologies. The dual degree will make a stepping stone for integration of Business and Engineering.
