The late Professor Emeritus Min-ho Park and Professor Sang-kyun Cha of School of Electrical and Computer Engineering were selected as the winners of the Development Achievement Award

Seoul National University, College of Engineering (Dean, Kun-woo Lee) announced that the late Professor Emeritus Min-ho Park and Professor Sang-kyun Cha of School of Electrical and Computer Engineering were selected as the winners of the Development Achievement Award. The award ceremony will be held at SNU Engineers’ House at 12:30 pm on June 21st.

 
The Development Achievement Award is a prize for in-school and out-of-school personnel who have outstanding achievements for Seoul National University College of Engineering. Since 1989, 46 people have been awarded this prize throughout 27 times.
 
The award winner the late Professor Emeritus Min-ho Park graduated Seoul National University with BS degree in Electrical Engineering. After, he worked in the National Center for Engineering and Agency for Defense Development. He became a professor in Seoul National University, Department of Electrical Engineering in 1957 and devoted to training younger scholars for 33 years until retirement in 1990.
 
Professor Park introduced the field of Power Electronics in 1973 for the first time in Korea and started lectures and related research, laying the groundwork for Korea's power electronics field. In 2012, he donated KRW 500 million to Seoul National University College of Engineering, to support the graduate students in power electronics field.
 
Professor Sang-kyun Cha of School of Electrical and Computer Engineering received his BS degree in electrical engineering from Seoul National University in 1980 and became an assistant professor at Seoul National University in 1992. In 2000, he founded a venture company in Silicon Valley, USA, based on software research conducted at the university for the first time in Korea, and acquired strategic acquisitions in SAP. In addition, he developed ‘SAP HANA’, the world-renowned data processing platform based on the underlying technology. This plays a key role in the development of new markets and in-memory analysis technology.
 
He founded SAP Labs Korea and trained more than 150 global SW architects and engineers in Korea, contributing greatly to the development of global software industry and globalization of Seoul National University. In addition, Professor Cha has donated fund and scholarship of the College of Engineering and has contributed greatly to the development of Seoul National University College of Engineering.
