Seoul National University (Dean Kunwoo Lee) announced that a research team of Prof. Soonhoi Ha of Dept. of Computer Engineering won the ‘Best University Department Award’ in ‘29th AGM SIGDA University Demonstration at DAC’ by introducing ‘service oriented internet platform SoPloT’.

University Demonstration is a part of the ‘DAC 2017 (Design Automation Conference 2017)’, which is the largest conference in the field of the system design and design automation. This is a place where universities from all over the world will present their research achievements through demo demonstrations, and 12 universities participated.

SoPIoT, which was introduced by the research team, is an Internet platform of objects suitable for a smart home or a smart office, allowing users to easily create their own scenarios by combining services as if they were building Lego blocks. The researchers demonstrated a scenario in which taking a picture of a person approaching the camera, judged emotion by the facial expression of the person, and e-mailed the photographs taken. This scenario received much attention from judges and observers.

Professor Ha said, "In the future, it is expected that a personal secretary IoT platform that can understand orders from the owner. The SoPlot that we presented in this demonstration corresponds to such a next-generation IoT platform.

Meanwhile, Professor Soonhoi Ha is a representative researcher of hardware - software integrated design methodology. Currently, he is a member of the IEEE scholarship program and director of the SNU Center for Teaching and Learning and the head of the ESRC Center at Seoul National University.
